Using calculators during exams
Examinations are the most stressful event of a student’s life and it couldn’t be avoided that there are student’s that will really have some difficulty even if the exam is quite easy. Let take up math subject for example, mathematical exams is clearly one of the difficult subjects and most people really have a problem in solving math problems. In the history of mankind, mathematical problems have always been a difficult task to take on even when there were calculators that have been invented during that time.
The benefit seen by math professors
During exams, math teachers before do not allow their student to use calculators because they believe that the students will be dependent on it for the rest of their lives. However, it has been noticed that students really have difficulty in solving mathematical problems thus their grades are affected and teachers begun to worry about it. Upon employing the use of calculators during classes and exams, there was a dramatic change in the student’s class participation. With the new tool in their hands, they are more likely to participate in the class and teachers sensed that the students are really making a good use of the calculators that they have.
Subsequently, by allowing the students to use calculators, math professors are able to gauge the student’s understanding of the lesson that they are having. This is also true with other subjects like physics, geometry and others which may require a calculator in formulating for a solution. The effect of the use of this tool has been proven to be beneficial compared to what was preconceived.
Currently, most universities and colleges are requiring their student’s to have their own calculators no matter what course and major they are in. Professors see calculators as a tool that; much like pens and papers, helps the students in o lot of ways like discovering new ways of finding a solution for a common problem, achieve their highest potential and ultimately reach their own goals in life.
